Cycling - A sign of the times
With today’s concerns about fitness, health and the environment,
cycling has become the rage across Canada. Economical, environmentally
sound, and fun, cycling is the fastest growing sports market in the
country. In fact, over the past 15 years, cycling has become one of
Canada’s most popular active past times. In Toronto alone, bicycle
traffic volume has increased over 100% over the last 6 years. On a
national basis, cycling has been ranked within the top four general
recreation and fitness activities for more than 10 years, and as the
number one summer activity.
According to a 1987 study conducted by the Canadian Cycling
Association, cycling is a stable growth sport and leisure activity. In
1987, there were an estimated 8 million cyclists across the country
with all indications that the figure was on the rise.
The bicycle itself has proven to be quite adaptable to the times. In
the 1970s, the frame was dressed up with high handle bars and a banana
seat, while in the 1980s the trend in bicycles was more towards the
sleeker, energy efficient racing bikes like the classic 10-speed.
Today's frames are durable light-weight materials and the wheels are
even foregoing spokes, taking on a disc-like appearance. And although
the classic 10-speed, spokes and all, is still most common, bicycles
are now being made with as many as 27 speeds to suit individual cycling
needs. The popularity of Mountain Bikes has also extended across the
country at an astounding 75% growth rate.
The fitness craze of the 1980s has made cycling an attractive adult
activity because it is easy, economical, and fun. For the serious
minded person, cycling provides an exercise that delivers the same
benefits as jogging, but it is easier on the joints.
Not surprisingly, cyclists are represented equally by both sexes
with approximately 40% of all Canadians cycling at least once a year.
And although most cycling takes place in the summer, there is still a
large percentage of Canadians cycling in both spring and fall.

Ten Commandments of Good Service
Cyclepath's success, to a large degree, is derived from having an
excellent product mix and competitive pricing, and by having a customer
service philosophy that differentiates us from others.
We believe in treating our customers the way we would like to be
treated. We truly LISTEN; so that we can give our customers products
and services that honestly satisfy their needs in an enjoyable shopping
environment. By doing this, we will continue to experience success.
In order to guide us along that path, we have developed the
Ten Commandments of Good Customer Service:
1. A Customer - is the most important person in
any business
2. A Customer - is not dependent on us - we are
dependent on him/her
3. A Customer - is not an interruption of our work
- he/she is the purpose of it
4. A Customer - does us a favour when he/she calls
- we are not doing him/her a favour by serving him/her
5. A Customer - is a part of our business - not an
outsider
6. A Customer - is not a cold statistic - he/she
is a flesh and blood human being with feelings and emotions like our
own
7. A Customer - is not someone to argue or match
wits with
8. A Customer - is a person who brings us his/her
wants - it is our job to fill those wants
9. A Customer - is deserving of the most courteous
and attentive treatment we can give him/her
10. A Customer - is the individual that makes it
possible to pay our salary whether he/she is a truck driver, sales
person, office employee, or manager.
